We give an introduction to the theory of p-adic numbers, and describe some of the applications to classical problems in number theory. The goal would be to show how some difficult classical problems have p-adic analogues which are often easier and give new information. The talk will be expository and intended for a general audience.
Un cocktail suivra la conférence au Salon Maurice l'Abbe (6245).
There will be a reception after the lecture in Salon Maurice l'Abbe (6245)
